Lights, Cameras, Bad Action!

Now now, the future is definitely not flux. (pun intended)
Read on to find out why. (Warning: might contain spoilers)

Before I start my rants on Aeonflux, let me say this first: I had watched this with a very open heart initially, and it’s not a matter of whether I love Charlize Theron or not, but a shallow story-plot plus bad action choreography just doesn’t cut it for me, when it comes to watching sci-fi action movies. Let’s get to the lowdown shall we?

Story - Some virus hits man-kind 400 years ago, and the government has been trying to use their most-advanced technology to clone human beings and preserving their DNA, while trying to find a vaccine for the virus. While the rest of the population and people are living under the Goodchild regime and control, there’s an underground resistance group known as The Monicans, trying their best to rebel against the Goodchild leaders and the government. Charlize Theron plays Aeonflux, the elite of the rebels. And so she was sent in to assassinate Trevor Goodchild (played by Marton Csokas, whom I had seen a couple of times before, most notably known in my memory as the villian in Tomb Raider the movie), but things were not that simple as it seems. She started to have some flashblacks on her past memories with the main subject she was suppose to kill, and fails in her mission eventually. It appears that she shares some affection for Trevor Goodchild, even though she was puzzled not knowing why. Not convinced, she starts to dig for the truth. And this is where it all starts to go downhill.

Action - Nope, there’s no Yuen Wo Ping. There’s no Ryuhei Kitamura (damn, if he’s doing this one, no way can this movie flop man) and obviously there’s no Donnie Yen either. I had no freaking idea who directed the action and fight choreography for this movie, but I can tell you, if you were thinking that the action scenes were the saving grace for this movie, then you are absolutely wrong abt it. At times, the camera focuses on the fight scenes, but with so much blurring and shakes here and there, there was no way you would be able to catch what you are seeing actually. Gun scenes were messed up big-time too; no cool camera angles, no bullet-time, no stylish jumps or kicks, it’s all done like what you would expect in a B-grade action movie. ‘Nuff said.

Sound - If there’s one saving grace abt this movie, it would be the soundtrack for it. Most of the tracks for this movie contains alot of futuristic techno-ish music. There are some very nice trance tracks too, but I’m not too sure who’s behind the soundtrack cause I haven’t check out the soundtrack for this yet, this is just based on what I’ve heard in the cinema while watching this show. All in all, the sound dept just slightly passed for this aspect, to say the least.

Summary - So what are the good points abt this movie, you ask? Well if you don’t mind catching it just for Charlize Theron (She’s hot alright, but not hot enough for me heh), other than that well that’s about it I guess, really. Spending $9.50 on a weekend on this movie just makes me feel so lousy, that I sworned I could have watched Chicken Little or something more enjoyable, at least. 1 star out of 5 stars for this, please avoid this flick like a plague. You have been warned.
